2021 Candidates from Oughterard, Derryglinna and Collinamuck

will receive their Confirmation on a date to be confirmed by Fr Michael (most likely

sometime August 2021) when it becomes possible to do so.

What is the “You Shall Be my Witnesses” course for Confirmation children?

The programme is designed to offer resources to members of the parish team that will enable

them to encourage, challenge and invite parents and the wider parish community to become

more actively involved in the preparation for Confirmation. The programme offers parents and

members of the wider parish community the opportunity to share their faith with the

candidates and hopefully create a space where all can learn from each other.

Over five sessions ‘You Shall Be My Witnesses’ explores the themes of

1.

belonging,

2.

believing,

3.

being,

4.

becoming and

5.

beginning again.  (in June 2021)

Each of these sessions is conducted by two leaders working with a small group of eight to ten

candidates. Ideally both leaders will be drawn from the parents of the Confirmation class.

What are the 3 modules on responsibility as followers of Jesus about?

These 3 evenings of 1 ½ hours each offer a space for children to talk and reflect upon what

responsibility means. Three areas of life will be examined.

1.

Responsibility towards creation

2.

responsibility towards family/community/parish

3.

responsibility towards truth

Important ongoing parts to the preparation year

What is the “off-line challenge”?

All sacrament preparation children are strongly encouraged take the off-line

challenge one weekend per month. This means they will have to avoid the use

of ALL game consoles, tablets and phones, while limiting the use of TV to a

maximum of 3 hours only. It is a very important exercise to unplug from

media and again re-discover our inner life. This is essential for our growth and

human beings and as Christians.

CHILDREN, PLEASE BE CREATIVE IN HOW YOU USE ALL THIS EXTRA TIME.

HAVE FUN!!!

ALWAYS REMEMBER THE OFF-LINE CHALLENGE. ONLY YOU WILL KNOW IF

YOU HAVE BEEN TRUTHFUL OR NOT!

Question

:

can

you

see

the

relevance

in

the

off-line

challenge?

Will

you

commit

to

do

it,

having

one

special

weekend

per

month

where

extra

quiet

and

reflection

will

become

a

part

of

your

life.

Discuss

this with your parents or older family members.

Daily prayer time:

Daily time of prayer with your child, lighting a candle and remember all that

you have to be thankful for. Let this be a special time of intimacy for your

family.

Due to the corona-virus pandemic the extensive year-long preparations are

of course altered.

How

may

I

keep

preparations

for

my

Confirmation

alive

and

active as I wait for June?

Please   engage   with   all   the   material   presented   on   this   page.   It’s not    homework,    but    growth-work.     It    helps    you    prepare    for adulthood.    You    are    soon    to    be    teenagers,    and    many    new challenges   will   be   faced   by   you.   The   boy   or   girl   with   a   living   faith has a great advantage, and will always do well in life. Let   us   remember   we   are   now   in   the   season   of   _   _   _   _.   What   will you do for your Lenten O _ ser _ a _ ce? Fill in the blanks… Pick   you   favourite   Lent   calendar,   just   one,   say   why   you   like   it,   and what   you   will   find   the   hardest   thing   to   do.   Do   you   know   why   it   may be hard to do? Calendar 1 Calendar 2 Calendar 3 Calendar 4 A   very   important   part   of   growth   to   maturity   is   to   know   who   you REALLY   are.   God   loves   who   you   really   are,   not   who   you   may pretend   to   be.   Tell   me   a   little   bit   about   yourself!   I   want   to   know   just a   little   bit   about   you.   Ask   you   parents   for   help,   in   learning   what   is good to share and what is just for family. To help you, use one of these two sheets as a guide… a little bit about myself 1 a little bit about myself 1   All    work    and    no    play    will    make    someone    really boring,   so   we   have   to   have   some   fun   too!   Pick   one activity   every   week   for   Lent,   say   why   you   choose   it, and what you learnt. Lent Activity 1 Lent Activity 2 Lent Activity 3 Lent Activity 4 Lent Activity 5 Lent Activity 6

Also for you…

Please download the links you like at the bottom of this page HERE

onto a spare phone. They are age appropriate free audio

downloads for your reflection provided FREE by Amazon.com.

Most Importantly: keep your daily prayers alive. Friendship with

God is strengthened with constant “meeting and sharing”.

Also, you can watch the film “Evan Almighty”, which is part of the preparation programme. Other good religious films for the family are… The Sound of Music (1965) A Man For All Seasons (1966) The Song of Bernadette (1943) It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) The Ten Commandments (1956) The Scarlet and the Black (1983) Jesus of Nazareth (1977) Schindler’s List (1993) * The Bells of St Mary’s (1945) Thérèse (2004) Braveheart (1995) * The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima The Mission (1986) * - my favourite film of all time! Parents,   please   do   you   research   to   see   if   they   are   OK   for   younger   children.   The   subject   material in   some   films   can   be   most   real   and   graphic,   but   portrayed   in   such   a   way   that   it   open   up   hope, hope in our abilities to overcome with God’s help…
