happiness in our lives, but with the Lord’s help we will overcome!
The theme of Lent is always REPENTANCE
How we live repentance will be different than most years, but the
inner reality is exactly the same.
firstly, a sense of remorse and sadness for what we have done, said, or become.
Secondly, the decision to turn away, and keep turning away from what caused remorse and
sadness to persist.
Thirdly, turning towards greater love for God (prayer and good devotions), and love for
others (service and forgiveness).
The 3 pillars of Lent are…
Prayer - give it time every day
Fasting - Wednesdsays & Fridays
Almsgiving - remember the poor

A word on fasting. It has been shown that fasting has powerful health benefits. It also has great benefits for our development as human beings, made in Gods own image and likeness. “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every Word from the mouth of God” was how our Lord answered the temptor when he felt hunger. Eating fish on Fridays was never a recommendation from the catholic church, fish is often the most expensive meat to eat in restaurants for example! Simple food, no meats, with no “treats” and no snacking, gives us a sense of hunger (that all too many people have no option but to feel) and it opens us to other “nourishment” that is more lasting.
